FRAMINGHAM, MA – OCTOBER 16, 2007 – IDG World Expo today announced that Melinda Kendall was selected as one of the five winners of The Expo Group Show Manager of the Year (SMOTY) Awards. Kendall was the first place winner in the Tier III category (301-700 booths) for her management of the annual LinuxWorld Conference & Expo®, and the inaugural Next Generation Data Center™ (NGDC™) Conference & Expo. Show managers are chosen based on their innovative event practices, demonstration of a strong customer service philosophy, a commitment to success and an ability to overcome obstacles.
“I’m thrilled and honored to have been selected for such a prestigious award,” said Melinda Kendall, General Manager, IDG World Expo. “We take so much pride in the events that we produce and we’re constantly looking for ways to improve them for our attendees as well as our exhibitors. Receiving this award from The Expo Group is testament to our commitment to the tradeshow industry and I’m proud to accept it on behalf of my team.”
Award winners will be honored at a dinner and ceremony on Nov. 1 at the Four Seasons in Atlanta. Honorees receive $1,000 for their favorite charity as well as the iconic crystal obelisk. Ms. Kendall has chosen to donate her award winnings to the Drama Department at Wellesley High School in Wellesley, Massachusetts.
“The Expo Group Show Manager of the Year award is all about the person,” says The Expo Group President and CEO Ray Pekowski. “I cannot stress this enough. Awards for size of show and growth of show already exist, but we started these awards eight years ago to honor the people who make our industry great.”
The Expo Group SMOTY awards are open to anyone in the industry responsible for producing a show, regardless of any affiliation with The Expo Group. This year’s nominees were suggested by co-workers, vendors, exhibitors, board members and themselves.
