Alan Bergstein Promoted to President and Publisher of IDG’s Bio-IT World and Health-IT World

BOSTON, MA – APRIL 5, 2004 – Bio-IT World, Inc., an International Data Group (IDG) company, today announced that Senior Vice President/Publisher, Alan Bergstein, has been appointed to the position of president and publisher of Bio-IT World, Inc. He succeeds founding President and CEO, Morris “Moe” Levitt, Ph.D., who has signed a multi-year consulting agreement with the company and will remain a senior advisor and member of Bio-IT World, Inc.’s Operating Review Board.

In his new role, Bergstein adds business and editorial management responsibilities to his previous sales, marketing and audience leadership roles. “With more than 25 years of publishing experience at IDG, CMP Media, and Cahners/Reed Elsevier, Alan brings just the right skill set to Bio-IT World as it moves from a start-up to a recognized leader in life sciences and technology information,” said Pat Kenealy, CEO, International Data Group. “Moe Levitt provided great vision and leadership as founding CEO of the business unit, and we are fortunate to have his continuing involvement in the organization.” Bio-IT World magazine, introduced more than two years ago, has grown to offer more than a dozen information products and services encompassing print, electronic and events in the U.S. A number of related publications and events have also been launched in other countries by IDG.

“Moe and I have worked closely together for the past two and a half years, backed by a staff of very talented people who have created one new information product after another since early 2002,” said Bergstein, who joined Bio-IT World, Inc. when the business unit was formed in 2001. “Moe will remain actively involved in new business development across publications and events and will help us to deepen our relationships with the life sciences and healthcare communities, comprising biotechnology, pharmaceutical, academic research, healthcare and government organizations.” Prior to Bio-IT World, Levitt held senior executive positions at media companies PennWell and Advanstar. He has also served as a director of BPA International, a global provider of audited data to the marketing, media, and information industries.

In the past year, Bio-IT World editors have won more than a dozen design and editorial excellence awards including three Jesse H. Neal first-place honors, 11 awards from the American Society of Business Publishing Editors and two Ozzies from Folio Magazine. Bio-IT World magazine is now a market leader in bio-IT ad pages carried by life sciences publications. Bergstein credited “the experienced, world-class team of savvy editors, audience developers, marketers and salespeople for the success.”

Early this year, Bio-IT World, Inc. launched a new title, publishing Health-IT World News as an electronic newsletter, and last month introduced Health-IT World, a digital-only monthly magazine and a companion Web site. The media company is also working with Life Science Insights, Inc., a business unit of International Data Corp., an IDG company, to conduct research and issue reports for senior researchers and executives across the life sciences and IT industries. The Bio-IT World /Health-IT World Conference + Expo, the recent life sciences and healthcare event in Boston, was produced jointly by the publications and the IDG World Expo Group.
