America 24/7 Project Visionary To Deliver Feature Presentation At Macworld

FRAMINGHAM, MA, NOVEMBER 18, 2003 – IDG World Expo, the leading producer of world-class tradeshows, conferences and events for technology markets around the globe, today announced that renowned photojournalist Rick Smolan will deliver a feature presentation at Macworld Conference & Expo® describing his recent project, America 24/7. During his feature presentation, Smolan will describe how the Mac was used to turn more than one million photographs submitted by more than 25,000 photographers into a book that chronicles life in America.

Smolan’s feature presentation,“America 24/7 – How Mac Technology Enabled 25,000 Americans to Capture the Essence of America,” will take place on Wednesday, January 7, 2004 at 9:30 a.m. Now in its 20th year, Macworld Conference & Expo runs January 5-9, 2004 at the Moscone Center in San Francisco.

In one of the most ambitious projects in the history of photography, Smolan collaborated with his Day in the Life of America co-founder David Elliott Cohen to collect more than one million photographs snapped by photographers all over America. America 24/7 is a collection of these photos, which together chronicle life in America during one week in May 2003. The first volume was released in October 2003.

At Macworld, Smolan will describe how the Mac was used in the production of America 24/7, using stunning visuals and behind-the-scenes anecdotes.

“The Macintosh played a crucial role in the success of the America 24/7 project,” said Smolan. “We were faced with the arduous task of sorting through more than a million images from tens of thousands of Americans, and compiling them into 56 separate volumes.
