Computerworld Launches Web Site Powered By Vignette

AUSTIN, TX – AUGUST 4, 2000 – Vignette Corporation (Nasdaq:VIGN), the leading supplier of e-business applications, today announced that Computerworld Inc. selected the Vignette(tm) V/5 eBusiness Application Platform to power its recently re-launched Web site, www.computerworld.com.

Computerworld is the flagship publication and leading worldwide brand of International Data Group (IDG), a global information technology publishing company based in Boston.

The site displays all of Computerworld's print publications as well as exclusive online content in a sophisticated but easily navigated presentation. Computerworld provides IT leaders and business executives with the latest technology news, in-depth features and Web resources on specific topics, and allows users to communicate with their peers via interactive forums in the community resources section of the site. Computerworld.com also delivers updated news headlines twice a day and an array of e-mail newsletters on IT topics.

In moving to Vignette, Computerworld was seeking a manageable solution for migrating large amounts of content from its existing publishing system to the Web. It also needed a way to move 50,000 pieces of editorial content from its print archives to the new site. Now, an XML script pulls print content into a database and successfully pre-populates fields using the Vignette(tm) V/Series architecture.

"Vignette's efforts to make the site easier to navigate and read have paid off," said Sharon Machlis, managing editor of Computerworld.com. "It is now easier for our readers to find stories, forums and other content, and the new technology has streamlined the production process for our editorial team."
