An infusion of Hollywood heavyweights and a ‘green’ fashion reception highlight the agenda as pop culture continues to influence the green movement

GreenXchange LLC has announced that Davis Guggenheim, director and producer of both documentary and dramatic film and television, will address attendees at the inaugural GreenXchange™ Global Marketplace Conference as part of a panel addressing Popular Culture and its role in the green movement. The panel also includes representatives from Creative Artists Agency and the Environmental Media Association. Guggenheim is most recently celebrated for directing and producing An Inconvenient Truth, the Oscar-winning documentary based on Nobel Peace Prize Winner Al Gore’s campaign to raise awareness of the of global warming crisis. The inaugural GreenXchange event takes place December 10-11, 2007 at the Hyatt Regency Century Plaza Hotel in Los Angeles.

As part of its comprehensive conference agenda, GreenXchange will highlight the entertainment industry and its role in the global effort to educate people about environmental issues. Through television, film, literature and music, the entertainment industry has the power to garner vital media attention to raise the public's awareness of major environmental issues and crises. Beyond this, messages delivered through the media have the power to inspire millions to seek more sustainable lifestyles, by reminding people to consider their carbon footprint and their impact on the environment in their everyday lives.

“I knew about global warming but didn’t really grasp it until I saw Al Gore’s slide show, when for the first time, someone laid out the subject, explained it to me and connected the dots. I left after an hour and a half realizing that global warming is the most important issue we face today,” said Davis Guggenheim. “I also realized that I wanted to help more people understand the urgency in addressing global warming which is why I’m excited about participating in this conference and having another platform to drive that message.”

Guggenheim, along with Michelle Kydd Lee, Director, CAA Foundation and Debbie Levin, President of the Environmental Media Association, will lead a panel entitled “Pop Culture as a Green Market Catalyst,” which assesses the ability of the entertainment industry to drive demand for green technologies and corporate responsibility. Further, the session will discuss the strengths and weaknesses of positioning “celebrity” icons as role models and advocates of environmental sustainability.

"As we've seen with An Inconvenient Truth, great storytellers and great leaders collaborating for a purpose just might inspire a meaningful change in the world,” said Michelle Kydd Lee.

On the eve of the first day of the conference, attendees will be treated to a gala fashion reception presented by Goodwill Industries and hosted by Creative Artists Agency. The Goodwill is an eco-conscious organization working to better our planet by recycling and acting responsibly. Using a vintage clothing collection that dates as far back as the 1700’s, the organization produces fully choreographed “Vintage Rhapsody” fashion shows.
