DEMO 08 to Explore Hidden Frontiers of Innovation
SOUTHBOROUGH, MA – November 29, 2007 – The DEMO conferences occur twice each year, bringing together new technologies, new thinking, and a host of industry influencers to debate the latest technology trends and support important new innovations. DEMO 08, taking place January 28-30 in Palm Desert, CA, will foster debate and the exploration of new opportunities with two panels devoted to finding exciting prospects in new ideas and within new regions.

The DEMO events are built around the debut of new products and the resulting discovery of new opportunities. DEMO 08 promises to deliver approximately 70 live demonstrations of industry changing technologies from both startups and established companies. The list of demonstrating companies will be announced on January 25, 2008.
"DEMO and its audience is focused intently on the new products that debut at the conference. I am proud to bring to the DEMO community discussions that will provide perspective around the new products and spark critical thinking on how we do business in the United States, and around the world," said Chris Shipley, executive producer of the DEMO conferences. "Each of the two panels at DEMO 08 is designed for DEMO's community: smart, technologically savvy insiders that are constantly seeking out knowledge and opportunity. These must-attend discussions will focus on the frontiers of innovation."
Introduced at DEMOfall 07 and back by popular demand will be a panel moderated by Shipley that will feature three innovators from the world of academic research. Sponsored by the Ewing Marion Kauffman Foundation, these promising researchers will take the stage to demonstrate their innovations and discuss their visions of technology in the future.
"Academic research centers are rich with potential for the discovery of important new innovation," said Marjorie Smelstor of the Kauffman Foundation. "The Kauffman Foundation is pleased to continue its work with DEMO, again reaching deep into the academic community to identify pioneering researchers working on some very big ideas."
The second panel, entitled 'Into Africa: Innovation for Developing Regions,' will be moderated by Shipley and debated by the experts of the AfriGadget and White African blogs. This panel will delve into the economic opportunities open to those who are ready and able to reconsider Africa and explore the innovations of this developing region.
"Africa is fertile ground for the exploration of tech innovation," continued Shipley. "Rethinking methods and approaches in order to meet a decidedly different need set is the key to unlocking the potential of the nearly 700 million people who live on the continent. Our panelists are steeped in Africa and Innovation and share a belief that Africa represents a vast and untapped market. What we learn from this panel discussion will likely be applicable to other developing regions."
