DEMOfall 07 Panels to Consider Future of Innovation

SOUTHBOROUGH, MA – AUGUST 28, 2007 – DEMOfall 07, the annual September gathering of technology’s elite to witness the debuts of the most compelling new tech products, will feature two panels focused on the future.

On Tuesday, September 25, the DEMOfall program will include a panel moderated by DEMO Executive Producer Chris Shipley and featuring three Young Innovators. Sponsored by the Ewing Marion Kauffman Foundation, these promising young entrepreneurs, all recent undergraduates, will take the stage to discuss their innovative and entrepreneurial achievements and their visions of technology in the future. The Young Innovators are:

• Michael Callahan, 24, University of Illinois, Champaign-Urbana, start up company: Ambient

• Emile Petrone, 22, University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, start up company: Knowble Inc.

• Arash Sabet, 25, Washington University-St. Louis, products: novel surgical equipment

“These are three entrepreneurs to watch,” said Marjorie Smelstor of the Kauffman Foundation. “Despite their youth, these three have big visions for technology, as evidenced by their track record in dreaming up and developing new products. The Kauffman Foundation is pleased to be able to bring them to DEMOfall and introduce them to the prestigious audience of business development people, VCs, and reporters that DEMO events attract.”

While at the conference, the Young Innovators will showcase their innovations at the Kauffman Foundation station, located in the Networking Lounge section of the Demonstrator Pavilion.

The second panel will take place at the closing dinner on Wednesday, September 26. Network World President and Editorial Director John Gallant will moderate a discussion focused on technologies of the future. Entitled, "Imagining the Future: Products we'd like to see at DEMO 2008 and Beyond," the panel will include the following DEMO alumni and technology insiders:

• Ed Baig, Personal Technology Columnist, USA Today

• John Jordan, Ph.D., Executive Director, Center for Digital Transformation

Smeal College of Business, Pennsylvania State University

• Scott Sangster, Director, Strategic Planning and Development, Walt Disney Internet Group

• Kara Swisher, Co-Executive Editor, The Wall Street Journal

“Given the personalities on this panel, and their tech credentials, this is sure to be a quick-witted and fascinating discussion,” said Shipley. “I’m looking forward to hearing about the products that these tech followers wish were available in the market – and I imagine some enterprising entrepreneurs in the audience will be taking notes and planning ahead to DEMO 2008.”

DEMOfall 07 will be the launchpad event for 70 new technologies selected from across the spectrum of the tech industry. Each product selected to debut at the conference will impact the marketplace, either ushering in an entirely new product category or upsetting an established status quo. The conference takes place September 24-26 in San Diego, CA. More information is available online:
