Energy Insights Launches Energy Executive Council

FRAMINGHAM, MA – August 15, 2005 – Energy Insights, an IDC Company, today announced the launch of the Energy Executive Council, a new professional organization for chief information officers (CIOs) and business executives in the energy industry. The Council will focus specifically on the intersection of business process and technology to help members drive change in their organizations and the energy industry as a whole.

Representing some of the most prominent energy companies and organizations in the industry, the charter members of the Energy Executive Council are:

American Electric Power

American Gas Association

Alliant Energy

Austin Energy

Edison Electric Institute

National Grid USA

Toronto Hydro

UniSource Energy

Xcel Energy

The launch of the Council, which held its inaugural meeting on August 8 in Denver, Colorado, is particularly timely with the recent passage of the $14.5 billion energy bill signed into law by President Bush on the same day. Council members will be looking at how a number of key provisions in the bill have the potential to impact their IT investments.

In addition to its analysis of the energy bill implications, Council initiatives will include benchmarking and future business and technology visioning. Key topics will be addressed through in-depth research, case studies, position papers, and workshops.

"Unlike other executive forums, the Energy Executive Council's focus is on technology as an enabler to business transformation," said Ray Gogel, vice president and CIO at Xcel Energy. "More importantly, we'll be looking closely at how technology-enabled innovation can drive change in the industry."

"IT and business executives in the energy industry confront significantly unique challenges than those from our peers in other industries," said Andres Carvallo, CIO at Austin Energy. "The Energy Executive Council gives us an unprecedented opportunity to share and access deep domain information that we need to make better decisions about our business. The energy-specific focus is a unique value proposition from other technology councils."

The Council will focus specifically on the intersection of business process and technology to help members drive change in their organizations and the energy industry as a whole. The Council provides an opportunity for members to craft a specific research agenda, access dedicated research resources, and learn from their peers about the successes and failures of key initiatives in their organizations.

The Council is supported by a team of top industry experts, an executive director, and senior research analysts and executives from Energy Insights and its parent company, IDC. Key members of the team include:

– Rick Nicholson, Vice President, Energy Insights

– Jill Feblowitz, Director, Energy Wholesale Strategies, Energy Insights

– Shellie Rapson James, Executive Director, Energy Insights

– Meredith Whalen, Group Vice President, IDC

The Council will meet quarterly to review the research agenda and propose new agenda topics as they apply to the members. The next meeting will be held in Austin, Texas in November.
