eRecruiting Services in Western Europe Expected to Reach $4.5 Billion by 2005, IDC Says

FRAMINGHAM, MA – DECEMBER 18, 2001 – A window of opportunity exists for erecruiting service providers in Western Europe over the next four years. The combination of low unemployment rates and the increase in Internet adoption rates across Western Europe has created a growing market for erecruiting services in the region. According to IDC, the Western European market, consisting of 16 countries, is forecast to reach $4.5 billion by 2005.

"Countries with low unemployment rates, high turnover rates, and high Internet adoption rates provide ripe market opportunities for erecruiting services," said Christopher Boone, IDC senior analyst of eRecruiting Services research. "Low unemployment rates point to the potential for labor shortages within a country. High Internet adoption rates indicate a willingness to use services delivered via the Internet. Together, these factors are the two main driving forces behind the adoption of erecruiting services."

Although the global economic slowdown has decreased the urgent need to fill positions, companies are beginning to recognize the benefits of erecruiting services. For example, erecruiting service providers will sort through resumes and find qualified candidates, which will, in turn, impact the overall efficiency of a company’s erecruiting process.

By 2005, IDC expects countries such as Germany and the United Kingdom to emerge as leaders in terms of erecruiting services revenues with 14 other European countries following. Yet localization of services can be challenging. "With unique recruiting customs and regulations in addition to different languages and cultures across the 16 countries in IDC's forecast, erecruiting service providers that seek to address the pan-European market must establish localized services to address each market successfully," Boone said.

IDC’s new report Western European eRecruiting Market Forecast and Analysis, 2000-2005 (IDC #25992) examines and provides a five-year forecast for the Western European erecruiting market, which is divided among the following 16 countries: Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Ireland, Italy, The Netherlands, Norway, Portugal, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, and the United Kingdom. This report also examines and analyzes the market trends for each of these countries. Lastly, the document provides actionable recommendations for vendors to position themselves for emerging growth opportunities throughout the region.
