Experts from FAA, Network Appliance and Symantec to Keynote At COMNET 2003; Top Executives Will Address Key Networking and Security Issues Facing Today’s Enterprise

FRAMINGHAM, MA – OCTOBER 1, 2002 – IDG World Expo, the leading producer of world-class tradeshows, conferences and events for IT markets, today announced that COMNET 2003's keynote lineup will feature top executives from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), Network Appliance and Symantec. COMNET's audience of enterprise, telecommunications and government IT leaders will learn from these and other experts about today's key issues, with an emphasis on security, storage, wireless and Web services. COMNET Conference & Expo takes place January 27-30, 2003 at Washington D.C.'s Washington Convention Center.

Daniel Mehan, Ph.D., chief information officer of the FAA, will kick off COMNET 2003 with his opening keynote presentation on Tuesday, January 28 at 9 a.m. Dr. Mehan directs strategic planning for information technology across the FAA, and acts as the principal advisor to the agency's Administrator on issues relating to information technology. Dr. Mehan's keynote, "Using Multiple Layers of Protection to Provide Cyber Security," will review some of the FAA's Homeland Security strategies and initiatives.

COMNET 2003 attendees will also have the chance to hear from:

Dan Warmenhoven, CEO of Network Appliance, Inc.; Wednesday, January 29 at 9 a.m.

John Schwarz, president and COO of Symantec Corporation; Wednesday, January 29 at 2:45 p.m.

Web services will dominate the discussion in this year's Network World Showdown, moderated by the publication's President and Editorial Director John Gallant. Today's top Web services vendors will meet on stage to answer tough, unscripted questions from rivals, Web services experts and members of the audience in this presidential-style debate. The Showdown will uncover the reality behind the mega-hype surrounding Web services, and help enterprise IT buyers identify the leading suppliers in this evolving space.

COMNET 2003 will also welcome back Richard Wiley, who will moderate his 25th COMNET Town Meeting: "The 'Low Down' on 'High-Tech' Communications Policy and Regulation." Wiley, former chairman of the FCC and senior partner at Wiley, Rein & Fielding, LLP, will review key regulatory and policy issues for 2003. A panel of leading government experts will discuss and debate such topics as local exchange competition, long distance entry, broadband access, spectrum availability, international policy, industry competition, convergence and consolidation and the effects of the recent economic downturn.

"We've gathered the top minds in the industry to speak at COMNET 2003," said Darrell Baker, vice president of event services, IDG World Expo. "Each of these speakers draws on years of personal experience to offer enterprise and government IT leaders their perspectives on the changing landscape of communication networking. We're confident that attendees will leave this year's event with new ideas and effective strategies to increase ROI, secure their networks, and make the most of their existing infrastructure."
