FCW to Launch gBuys – a Deal-Based, Public Sector e-Market – in September
FALLS CHURCH, VA – AUGUST 22, 2000 – How do you interactively pool the purchasing power of federal, state and local government buyers for exceptional deals from commodity IT manufacturers and resellers?
FCW Government Technology Group Inc. today announced a Sep. 5 launch of gBuys(TM), a World Wide Web application through which public-sector organizations can pool their buying power to get lower prices on information technology commodities via special deals from reputable sellers. A team comprised of FCW, BroadVision Inc. and KPMG LLP created gBuys using BroadVision's One-to-One e-commerce platform. Companies offering the first round of deals through gBuys include network storage company Land 5 Corp. and Micron Government Computer Systems Inc.
"We have two objectives in creating gBuys," said Edith Holmes, president and chief executive officer of FCW. "First, we want to increase our value to both our government audiences and our industry customers. Second, we want to be the media leader in the development of B2G e-markets."
"gBuys applies the latest e-commerce technology to realize the convergence of promotion and transaction," said Steve LeCompte, vice president at FCW. "New, Web-enabled applications are transforming the business processes of sellers and government buyers. As an independent third party, FCW is with gBuys helping to moderate the balance of power between them during this transformation."
