General Colin L. Powell To Speak At 23rd Annual COMNET Conference and Expo

Powell, USA (Ret.) will deliver a very special keynote speech at this largest annual technology event in Washington, D.C.
General Powell, a recipient of numerous U.S. military awards and decorations, was a professional soldier for 35 years, during which time he held a myriad of command and staff positions. In 1989, Powell reached the pinnacle of his military career when President George Bush appointed him the twelfth Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, the highest military position in the Department of Defense. As Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, General Powell oversaw 28 crises and emerged as key advisor to President Bush. As architect of Operation Desert Shield, he designed powerful strategies to execute the most intricate and high-tech military campaign in history: Operation Desert Storm. In March 1991, the global alliance of forces defeated the Iraqis, with General Powell at the helm of this American military success.

Powell currently serves as chairman of America’s Promise, an organization dedicated to challenging Americans to scale up their investment in the nation’s youth. Since chairing the organization's founding event in 1997, General Powell has been committed to making the lives of America's youth a national priority. He is also a member of the Board of Trustees of Howard University and of the Board of Directors of the United Negro College Fund. He serves on the Board of Governors of The Boys & Girls Clubs of America and is a member of the Advisory Board of the Children's Health Fund.
