Green Takes Center Stage At This Year’s Next Generation Data Center Conference & Expo
FRAMINGHAM, MA – March 27, 2008 – IDG World Expo, the leading producer of world-class tradeshows and events, today announced that power consumption and the greening of the data center are two themes that will dominate this year’s Next Generation Data Center™ (NGDC™) Conference & Expo. The topic will stand-out in keynote presentations and the conference agenda, providing attendees with a unique opportunity to learn from industry experts about how they can increase efficiency across their infrastructure. The issue of power will also resonate throughout the show floor by highlighting exhibitors with power products in the event show guide, the event web site, and through booth signage. NGDC is scheduled to take place August 4-7, 2008 at San Francisco’s Moscone Center.
Currently, energy costs account for the second largest line item associated with data center operations, and they are expected to rise quickly in the coming years. A proliferation of data and the need to cost-effectively manage data-related resources are causing the need for increased servers and storage that, in turn, have created extreme energy challenges for today’s data centers. According to Gartner, by 2008, 50 percent of IT managers will not have enough power to run their data centers. Consequently, ROI is down because power costs are escalating.
“One of the most significant trends in IT today is the issue of power, so having a major emphasis on this topic throughout the event is important,” said Andreas Antonopoulos, Senior Vice President and Founding Partner of Nemertes Research, and Moderator for The Green Data Center Panel at NGDC. “In NGDC, the industry now has a central gathering place where they can to go to learn best practices on energy efficiency in the data center.”
Key industry associations and media who are supporting the green initiative at NGDC through sponsorships include Climate Savers Computing Initiative, the Green Computing Impact Organization (GCIO), and GreenerComputing.com. In addition, The Green Grid will participate in the Green Data Center Panel, and NGDC will feature a Green Data Center Pavilion where exhibitors will demonstrate solutions that address energy efficient standards, processes, and technologies.
“It's a considerable achievement and an important contribution to help advance green building into the mainstream," said Karen Larkowski, Chief Evangelist, GCIO. “We are thrilled to participate in an event that provides data center professionals with the opportunity to obtain information and real solutions about available Green Computing products in order to further promote wide adoption.”
Highlights for this year’s event include:
* The Green Data Center Panel: A feature presentation on Wednesday, August 6(th) at 4:30 p.m. that will feature a discussion among leading power-aware vendors including members of The Green Grid working to reduce power consumption across the infrastructure.
* Power Sessions: Too big for a single track, power issues will be addressed in sessions across all conference tracks, and will be designated as “Power Sessions.”
* PowerWise: To keep this theme resonating throughout the show floor, exhibitors with power conserving products will be highlighted with special signage, as well as in the event show guide and web site, making it easy for IT professionals to find power solutions.
