IDC Adds Karsten Weide to New Media and Digital Marketplace Research Tea

FRAMINGHAM, MA – JANUARY 4, 2007 – IDC today announced the addition of Karsten Weide to its Digital Marketplace and New Media research program. As Director of Digital Media and Entertainment research, Weide will lead two IDC programs focusing on the Internet's continuously evolving ecosystem. These programs provide strategic insight into the business models, competitive dynamics, and combinatorial innovations driving today's digital marketplace.

"Karsten brings a wealth of hands-on experience and industry knowledge that complements the expertise of IDC's other Internet and new media analysts," said Danielle Levitas, vice president, Consumer and Broadband Markets at IDC. "We're confident that his understanding of the digital marketplace will further extend the scope of IDC's online market research, which began more than 10 years ago with the creation of IDC's Internet Commerce Market Model."

Prior to joining IDC, Weide founded the U.S. affiliate of MediaAnalyzer, a European online market research company specializing in advertising research. In the years before MediaAnalyzer, he published the Internet industry newsletter San Francisco Report and was a management consultant to Internet companies. Previously, Weide led the effort to launch the German operations of Yahoo! as well as Yahoo!'s production in Europe. Prior to Yahoo!, he served as Director of Product Development for Europe Online and established the German-language online services for Ziff-Davis.

Weide is based in IDC's San Mateo, California office.

"I am very pleased to be given this opportunity to further extend IDC's Internet research offerings," said Karsten Weide. "The consumer Internet space is an important source of innovation and disruption, particularly at the intersection of new media and the digital marketplace. IDC provides meaningful analyses and strategic insights that help its clients to adapt to the challenges and opportunities presented by the Internet's evolution."

IDC's Digital Marketplace and New Media research programs provide data and analysis of the trends and technologies driving the online ecosystem. With in-depth research written from both the business and consumer perspectives, IDC offers deep knowledge of the business models, technologies, events, and opportunities that impact the digital marketplace.

Join Karsten Weide and other IDC research analysts at 2007 International CES, where IDC will host three breakfast briefings at Wynn Las Vegas on January 8th, 9th, and 10th. The briefings will feature IDC's expert analysts as they discuss opportunities for technology, services, device, content, and hardware vendors to capitalize on trends in consumer markets.
