IDC Analysts to Lead Deep Dive Sessions on M2M, Transparent Computing, and Cloud & Mobile Infrastructure at SMART TECHnology World Conference, May 30-31
SAN MATEO, Calif., May 7, 2013 – International Data Corporation (IDC) and GTIA L.L.C. announced that IDC research analysts will chair three "deep dive" sessions about transparent computing, machine-to-machine (M2M), and cloud & mobile infrastructure on Day 2 of the SMART TECHnology World 2013 conference in Menlo Park, California on May 31st.
SMART TECH is the only executive-level conference focused on intelligent systems, which are autonomous, connected, and securely managed systems that enable rich user experiences. After executive attendees from the IT business, industry, and financial communities engage on topics critical to enabling intelligent systems—like Big Data, Security, and the Internet of Things—on May 30th, a select group will engage IDC analysts and major users who deploy intelligent systems technology in these deep dive sessions on May 31st:
Transparent Computing. Led by IDC's Michael J. Palma, Research Manager, Consumer Devices
Machine-to-Machine Communications (M2M) – The Rise of the Machines. Led by IDC's Les Santiago, Research Director, Wireless Communications and M2M
Intelligent Systems and the Cloud & Mobile Infrastructure. Led by IDC's Abhi Dugar, Research Manager, Cloud and Mobile Infrastructure
In each session, the analyst will analyze the topic area's technology and market landscape. Major technology users, such as OEMs and service providers, will then present the critical issues they face in deploying intelligent systems technology. All parties will then engage in focused discussion.
Speaking to the dramatic impact of transparent computing, IDC's Palma said, "The development of gesture, touch, voice, and optical recognition technologies in billions of intelligent systems is changing not only the user interface, but the overall experience for users. First seen by users of Microsoft's Kinect and now with touch-enabled PCs, these technologies will revolutionize how we interact with the array of computers and machines we will come across in our lives."
IDC's Santiago added, "If transparent computing enacts person-to-machine communications, similar sensor, connectivity, and processing technologies also enact machine-to-machine communication. But M2M applies such technologies in a fundamentally different way. Billions of machines autonomously interacting, analyzing data, and making their own decisions enables huge efficiencies and revenue opportunities, such as predictive analytics. But M2M also begs for analysis of the effects on security and privacy."
"Intelligent systems technology has extraordinary implications for the cloud and mobile infrastructure, including the need to increase network intelligence, mitigate security threats, increase bandwidth, improve network interfaces, and lower power consumption," noted IDC's Dugar. "SMART TECH's deep dive sessions thus reflect how fundamental to society intelligent systems will become. People interacting with machines through transparent computing, machines autonomously interacting with other machines, and people and machines interacting with the cloud and mobile infrastructure put intelligent systems at the edge, in the infrastructure, and in between."
SMART TECH's deep dive sessions provide the best opportunity to get a solid, objective view of the market landscape, hear the perspective of real customers and assess whether your activities are in synch for intelligent system market success. Participation in each deep dive is limited to 25 attendees. Content for each session is exclusive, including a formal email invitation from the analyst chair with a profile of the session's participants and goals for the session. All participants will receive an IDC follow-up report that analyzes the session's results.
