IDC and Advantiv Join Forces To Accelerate Enterprise Application Selection And Adoption

FRAMINGHAM, MA — NOVEMBER 27, 2000 — IDC and Advantiv, Inc. today announced a partnership aimed at dramatically improving the process of assessing, selecting, and implementing mission-critical enterprise application systems. The companies will combine their expertise to offer an Internet-based platform that provides software, a methodology, and valuable intelligence on technology-specific topics, including enterprise information portals, enterprise resource planning, customer relationship management, ebusiness, document management, data warehousing, and many others.

Under terms of the IDC/Advantiv agreement, Advantiv will provide the software and infrastructure that power the solution, and IDC will provide intellectual capital about specific technology products including feature function criteria, operating environment, and critical business issues. The partnership will provide customers with critical information and a structured environment to improve their decision process. The product is scheduled to be launched before year end and will be available under IDC's IT Advisory Tools product set. IT Advisory Tools are designed to ensure that technology purchasing and deployment decisions are optimized.

"The combination of IDC industry expertise and Advantiv's enabling technology should let CIOs sleep better at night because it will improve the decisions on which they stake their careers," said Dennis Philbin, senior vice president of IDC's Internet and Partnership Products. "This tool will help executives implementing complicated technology solutions avoid mistakes and save time and money by empowering them with a consistent process to make informed decisions during each phase of their mission-critical software initiatives. With this tool, they'll have easy access to the knowledge of over 700 industry experts from all over the world."

Jim Robb, Advantiv President and CEO, said, "Industry research shows many companies experience IT projects that are behind schedule and over budget. The IDC/Advantiv offering creates a winning combination of technology, process, and industry knowledge that helps ensure project success."

According to IDC and Advantiv, the goal is to improve companies' software needs assessment process by helping them define their project objectives, benchmark their current situation, and review what's available in the market. Next, the platform will simplify the selection process by enabling companies to better define new system requirements, develop a request for proposal, and compare vendor offerings. It will then help companies plan the rollout of their new system and simplify the process of measuring the project's success.

IDC and Advantiv's partnership will accelerate the decision-making process for IT initiatives by eliminating the need to conduct research and enhancing companies' ability to share knowledge.
