IDC Announces the Industry’s First Research Program Covering eMarketplace Services

FRAMINGHAM, MA – JUNE 5, 2000 – Further demonstrating its leadership role in identifying new market opportunities, IDC today became the first market research firm to cover the emarketplace services industry, launching a new program focusing on this quickly emerging opportunity. Dr. Leo Lipis will cover this area for IDC.

According to IDC, an emarketplace is an Internet solution that links many buyers and many suppliers of related products and services at a neutral site. eMarketplace services include consulting, design, implementation, integration, and operations services for emarketplaces.

"The opportunities in business-to-business ecommerce will continue to inspire the creation of emarketplaces," Lipis said. "The builders of most of these emarketplaces are looking for assistance in designing, deploying, and managing the complex Web-based applications and integration with legacy systems that will support their smooth and efficient operation. This is triggering a dramatic spike in demand for emarketplace services, as well as enormous opportunities for vendors with a heritage in strategy consulting, system integration, software development and customization, and Web operations."

Additionally, a specialized type of services firm, an emarketplace service firm, has cropped up. These firms combine consulting, implementation, and management services to target emarketplace services opportunities exclusively.

"In 1999 service firms were taking their first steps to meet this market need. In 2000 and beyond, they will not merely be walking, they will be sprinting to reach emarketplace clients," Lipis said.

IDC's new program analyzes the emarketplace services market and helps companies identify, assess, and capture this fast-growing opportunity. Research planned for this program includes:

· eMarketplace Services Market Analysis and Competitive Positioning

· Worldwide eMarketplace Service Forecast and Analysis, 1999-2004

· eMarketplace Services: Trends and Opportunities in Deploying, Integrating, and Operating eMarketplaces

· Profile Series of Leading eMarketplace Service Providers, including CSC, Lante, and NerveWire
