IDC Debuts Conference for Growing Application Service Provider Industry
FRAMINGHAM, Mass– 01/25/2000 — IDC announced today the debut of a new application service provider (ASP) conference titled IDC's AppSourcing Forum, which was created to help attendees seize the opportunity in this emerging market.
"The ASP market is forming at warp speed. It's exceeding 90% compound annual growth and will approach $5 billion in 2003," said Clare Gillan, IDC's group vice president, Applications and Information Access Research. "These numbers are staggering considering the many outstanding issues pertaining to business models and quality of service and that ASP partnerships are still being defined — and, in many cases, redefined."
The rise of ASPs is having a disruptive effect on established relations within the IT industry, and many companies are scrambling to determine where and how they will fit in the emerging market. "The evolving ASP business model presents opportunities for new partners, new pricing paradigms, new ways of marketing and selling, and new target customers. IDC's AppSourcing Forum will deliver strategic insight and guidance for tackling these changes as it draws upon IDC's in-depth ASP research and analyst experience," said Meredith McCarty Whalen, program manager of IDC's ASP and Internet Services research.
WHAT: IDC's AppSourcing Forum will enable ASP strategists to capitalize on this multibillion-dollar opportunity by providing insightful industry analysis and forecasting as well as customer feedback, case studies, and actionable advice from ASP experts. In addition, it will help journalists get their arms around the ASP market – with proprietary research, access to analysts, and ASP leaders.
* Analysts will be available to comment on the latest proprietary IDC research results from demand- and supply-side studies.
* Industry experts will predict where the ASP market is headed and how to prepare.
* ASPs will provide insight on what it's really like at the heart of this market.
* Customers will discuss what they look for in ASPs and how ASPs can best meet their diverse and evolving needs.
