IDC Expands System Management and Storage Software Coverage
FRAMINGHAM, MASS., MARCH 13, 2000 — IDC today announced a significant expansion of its expertise and coverage of the system management and storage software areas with the additions of Steve Widen and Dr. Tim Grieser. Widen joins IDC as the director of Storage Software research. Grieser has been hired as director of IDC's Performance and Availability Software research.
"Both of these men have extensive experience in their respective areas and will greatly enhance IDC's coverage of system management and storage-related software," said Paul Mason, vice president of IDC's Infrastructure Software research programs.
Widen comes to IDC from Compaq Computer, where he was manager of Customer Response and Competitive Analysis for the Storage Business Unit. He is not new to IDC. From 1987 to 1998 he managed one of IDC's competitive research programs. He also has more than seven years of experience with Data General Corporation, where he was an instructor, competitive analyst, marketing expert, and third-party relationship manager for tools and databases on DG/UX.
"Steve has a keen understanding of all storage, replication, and storage area network software, which will be invaluable to IDC's Software research group," Mason said.
Dr. Grieser comes to IDC with 20 years of experience in the development and marketing of performance and availability management software. He was a product manager, then vice president of Product Marketing and finally vice president of North American Marketing at BGS Systems of Waltham. When that company was acquired by BMC Software of Houston, Dr. Grieser became responsible for the company's product strategy and planning.
"Tim will add a new dimension to IDC's research in application performance and availability management, service-level management, application response time measurement, and Web-server performance management software," Mason said.
