IDC Expands to 21 Countries in EMEA Region with Launch of Spanish Office
FRAMINGHAM, Mass., February 1, 2000 — To meet the needs of its rapidly expanding southern European customer base, IDC today announced the expansion of its 20-country EMEA (Europe, Middle East, and Africa) network with its 21st office in Madrid, Spain. The new office will provide customers with local research, consulting, and support services on the information technology market.
"IDC has conducted research on the Spanish IT market for more than 15 years," said Roberto Masiero, president of IDC’s EMEA operations. "This new office reflects IDC’s ongoing strategy to provide our local customers with the industry’s only 'glocal' research — global research with local content and support."
The new office will be managed by Jesus Padraza, who has more than 15 years' experience in the Spanish IT industry. Prior to joining IDC, he was marketing director at Olivetti, and marketing manager and then sales and marketing manager for Texas Instruments' computer and personal productivity products. Padraza speaks six languages (Spanish, English, Italian, French, German, and Russian).
"Spain is the seventh major IT market in Europe and, for many businesses, the gateway to Latin America," said Ezio Viola, regional manager of IDC Southern Europe. "It represents a market of great potential as it undergoes the changes relating to European integration as well as increased foreign penetration and competition." IDC research released last month predicts the Spanish IT market will top $12 billion by 2003, with the growth of the software segment as a key market driver.
IDC will hold a ribbon-cutting ceremony and a local briefing to officially launch the new office on February 22, 2000.
Southern Europe has been the site of several well-attended IDC conferences over the past few years, including the prestigious European Telecoms and Banking Forums in Italy. IDC's European IT Management Forum takes place in Barcelona on March 27-28, 2000.
