IDC Finds Graphic Production Grows Australia’s Large Format Printer Market

NORTH SYDNEY – MARCH 31, 2003 – The Australian Large Format Printer (LFP) market witnessed an amazing 47% increase in shipments for the fourth quarter of 2002. Vendor total shipments grew from 956 units in Q302 to 1,414 in Q402. Overall shipments for 2002 totaled 4,800 units, versus the 3,728 shipments achieved in 2001.

According to IDC Analyst, Katina Goussetis, Although much of this growth can be attributed to the ever-increasing graphics arena, this market also saw a large amount of back-orders placed in Q302 where demand exceeded supply and have these have now been fulfilled in Q402.

"Furthermore, it was not only the increasing popularity of the graphics market or fulfillment of back-orders that drove up shipments, but also the increased efforts by the vendors for channel support, promotions or incentives and extra advertising in the industry trade magazines.

IDC also looks at shipments into the Construction and Architectural Design (CAD) market, which Ms Goussetis claims,The CAD market continues to struggle with its market saturation of more competitors than clients…most shipments into this market are either existing clients upgrading aging technology or adding an extra machine to their business operations". IDC predicts that the LFP market will remain steady in Australia, in particular with the graphics machines as improved technology is introduced and the uptake in digital imagery continues to grow.
