Framingham, MA, March 25, 2013 – Today, IDC Government Insights revealed details of an upcoming web conference, “Smart Government: Drivers and Challenges in Using Analytics and Big Data,” on Thursday, March 28th at 12:00 p.m., U.S. Eastern Time. The complimentary, one-hour web conference is designed specifically for the offices of chief information officer (CIO) and line-of-business directors in the government sector and will focus on business intelligence/analytics and Big Data in U.S. government, including drivers and challenges to adoption, as well as benefits received from investments so far.

WHAT: Based on an IDC vertical markets IT survey of U.S. government IT executives regarding their usage and plans for Big Data and Analytics, IDC found that government drivers align with the benefits that government receives; however, government responders also identified shortcomings with their current solutions. In this web conference, attendees will hear from executive peers in the U.S. government regarding the drivers, challenges, and benefits received from adopting Big Data and Analytics solutions.

The breakfast briefing will include information about a "Maturity Model" benchmarking tool, IDC Maturity Model: Big Data and Analytics — A Guide to Unlocking Information Assets (Document # 239771). The model provides a framework of stages, critical measures, outcomes, and actions required for organizations to effectively advance along the successive stages of Big Data and Analytics (BDA) competency toward data-driven decision making. BDA is becoming a top agenda item for a growing number of government executives as they recognize that the ability to manage and analyze big data, and derive value from these activities, will increasingly define an organization's ability to deliver mission outcomes.
