IDC Introduces New Manager for Its Entry Server Research
FRAMINGHAM, MASS., FEBRUARY 22, 2000 — IDC today welcomed Mark Melenovsky as manager of its Entry Server research. Fresh from covering the Europe, Middle East, and Africa (EMEA) emerging server markets from IDC’s Prague office, Melenovsky has joined IDC U.S. in the corporate headquarters office in Framingham, Mass. His vast international knowledge will add a new dimension to IDC’s worldwide coverage of the entry server market.
Melenovsky joined IDC East Central Europe in 1997 and managed the group's Computer Systems and Server Operating Environments programs beginning in January 1999. He conducted research and consulting projects in Central and Eastern Europe for the past several years. His expertise includes the network computing, PC server, enterprise systems, and server operating environments markets. As part of his responsibilities as the primary analyst for the systems program, Melenovsky performed product and vendor analysis, as well as forecasted the adoption of enterprise solution trends in EMEA's emerging markets.
"Mark complements the existing Commercial Systems program by adding valuable international and regional perspectives for our global clients' requests," said Vernon Turner, IDC’s vice president of Worldwide Commercial Systems and Servers research.
According to IDC, entry servers are defying the odds in the server market. While both high-end and midrange servers experienced revenue setbacks in 1999, worldwide entry server revenues grew an estimated 10%. This year they are anticipated to achieve even greater growth.
"The entry-level server market is one of the most dynamic areas in IT research today. With the growth of the Internet as well as Web-based businesses and services, the drive for reliable and scalable solutions is forcing midrange reliability, accessibility, and scalability functionality to become part of the entry server space," Melenovsky said. "Emerging technologies such as appliance servers and the growth of Linux systems only add to this quickly evolving enterprise landscape."
