IDC Launches Worldwide Semiannual Enterprise Resource Management Applications Tracker – Market Grows to $16.5 Billion in 1H 2010
FRAMINGHAM, MA – December 07, 2010 – International Data Corporation (IDC) today announced the launch of the industry's first global tracker covering the enterprise resource management (ERM) applications market on a semiannual basis. Covering six major regions and 13 of the largest country markets, the Worldwide Semiannual Enterprise Resource Management Applications Tracker provides biannual market size, vendor share, and forecast data for the eight functional markets that comprise the ERM market in IDC's software taxonomy.
The ERM Applications Tracker is one of five new global Software Trackers being launched by IDC with results delivered to clients through both Excel-based spreadsheets and on-line Query tools. A critical component to the Software Trackers is the global presence of IDC's software analysts who interview vendors, channel partners, and integrators on an ongoing basis at the country, regional, and global levels. This information is supplemented by IDC's software contracts database and carefully analyzed by IDC's newly established software company model team before it is entered into IDC's proprietary Tracker data platform.
"IDC has been making important investments to develop an extensive line of Software Trackers," said Eric Prothero, senior vice president, Worldwide Tracker Research. "The ERM Applications Tracker will provide useful insights into a large and diverse software category that is crucial to the operations of companies in a wide range of industries. We're confident that the market data will be of tremendous use to enterprise decision makers as well as ERM software vendors, their partners, and the investment community."
In the first half of 2010 (1H10), IDC's Worldwide Semiannual Enterprise Resource Management (ERM) Applications Tracker found that revenues for the global ERM market reached $16.5 billion, which represents 8.1% growth over the first half of 2009. Of the largest country markets, Brazil was the fastest growth area with an increase of 39.3% year over year, while Australia registered a similarly impressive 38.4% growth in constant currency. Within the overall ERM applications market, the Enterprise Asset Management market grew 12.2% year-over-year, making it the fastest growing market within the category.
"The ERM markets were impacted heavily by the recent economic crisis but saw strong recovery and growth in the first half of 2010," said Michael Fauscette, group vice president, Software Business Solutions at IDC. "ERM is composed of a variety of software markets, many of which are critical for competing in a global, hyper-connected business environment."
On the vendor front, SAP was the leading ERM vendor from a worldwide perspective during the first half of the year with total worldwide revenues from ERM applications of $2.45 billion. SAP it was also the leading vendor in 9 of the 13 countries tracked. Oracle was the number 2 vendor in the overall ERM category on the strength of its worldwide leadership in the functional market of Financial Performance and Strategy Management Applications. Over 380 regional and local ERM vendors are tracked in the ERM Applications Tracker, the largest being TOTVS, a Brazilian-based applications vendor, whose revenues accounted for $154.4 million in 1H10, which is up more than 50% in US dollars from 1H09.
The Worldwide Semiannual Enterprise Resource Management Applications Tracker provides total market size and vendor share for the following ERM market segments: financial accounting applications, human capital management, payroll accounting, procurement, order management, financial performance and strategy management applications, project and portfolio management (PPM), and enterprise asset management. Measurement for this Tracker is total software revenue, which includes license plus maintenance plus SaaS and other subscription revenue. The Tracker covers six geographic regions with country-level data for 13 nations. Annual five-year market forecasts for this Tracker are updated semiannually and include five-year annual market projections. Forecasts are available at worldwide, regional, and country levels.
