IDC Names 2010 Innovative Information Access Companies Under $100M to Watch as the Ability to Harness Information in the Enterprise Becomes a Key Differentiator for Organizations
FRAMINGHAM, MA – September 14, 2010 – In an effort to recognize information access vendors with revenues of less than $100 million that are adapting and innovating around key trends in the information access market, International Data Corporation (IDC) has published a new document highlighting a set of "Innovative Applications Companies Under $100M to Watch" for 2010.
"New technologies are eliminating boundaries between content and data to enable pervasive access to all relevant information," said Henry Morris, senior vice president, Worldwide Software and Services Research. "Contributing to this innovation is a group of small companies with the vision and technology to have an impact on the IT marketplace."
To identify the companies to watch, IDC solicited entries from information access vendors with annual revenues of less than $100 million who exemplified one or more of three key trends in information access today. These trends are:
* : The emergence of a category of applications designed to solve a particular business problem or streamline a business process that has a strong need for information, usually from multiple sources. They create a polished integrated work environment for information workers for eDiscovery, sales, research, reputation monitoring, voice of the customer, or customer support.Unified Access/Management to Content and Data
* : The emergence of new approaches to the content/data access problem, notably hybrid data structures that combine the advantages of speed and flexibility in search architectures with the data integrity of structured repositories.Collaborative Decision Management
* : The growth and adoption of analytic software tools and features that enable documentation of decision processes, provide contextual collaboration, and improve not only information sharing but the sharing of experience that supplemented the data to inform a decision.
Companies were judged on these criteria as a measure of their driving innovation in information access software. The companies selected in the information access category are (in alphabetical order):
* Accept Software Corporation
* Attensity Group
* Crowdcast, Inc.
* Expert System USA
* Kapow Technologies
The IDC study, Innovative Information Access Companies Under $100 Million to Watch, 2010 (IDC #224841), profiles each of the companies based on their exemplification of one or more of the three identified trends. These selection criteria were developed from IDC's Worldwide Information Access, Analysis, and Management Software 2010 Top 10 Predictions (IDC #221579).
IDC's "Innovative Companies Under $100M to Watch" reports are a qualitative evaluation of a set of vendors within a specific market – they are not a stack ranking nor do they represent an exhaustive evaluation of all companies in a segment or a comparative ranking of the companies in the report. IDC solicited entries from vendors of less than $100 million that exemplify specific key trends (selected by analysts) that are driving change in a specific software market. Vendors submitted case studies that exemplified one of the trends used as the basis for the award. These case studies were evaluated individually and independently by related market analysts across several pre-determined criteria. The case studies submitted for review had to demonstrate that the technology was available, able to be implemented, and provided real-world benefits to the customer.
