IDC’s European ServerVision 2003 Conference – A guide for IT professionals in an era of consolidation

LONDON – OCTOBER 14, 2003 – The ability to manage a portfolio of IT resources with budgets that are increasingly scrutinized for cost effectiveness is a key concern for IT professionals today. IT and IT decision making are moving away from being an isolated function of the business to being a key strategic concern that penetrates many aspects of business activity. IT managers, CIOs, and directors now need to be able to translate the needs of the boardroom into actionable activities and demonstrate effective packaging of resources to match the goals and directions of their organizations. These issues will be deliberated at IDC's European ServerVision to be held in London on October 21, 2003.

"Modern businesses are under intense pressure. In the midst of restructuring and downsizing, many have found their IT systems wanting.

They are demanding more efficiency and a better fit between technology and business processes. They want more for less," said Martin Hingley, VP for IDC's European Systems Group.

The need to dramatically reduce the cost of IT operations is driving many companies towards consolidation, with a particular focus on servers and storage. IDC's ServerVision 2003 conference will help delegates understand how they can capitalize on consolidation to deliver an efficient, sustainable, and adaptable technology infrastructure.

Themes of the Event This event will focus on ways to address consolidation in the organization and improve the utilization of IT infrastructure. Speakers from IDC, Citrix, Dell, HP, and Unisys will deal with themes including:

– The different methods of consolidation available today

– How to manage storage as a virtual resource

– How to modify the software stack to address different types of system

– Deriving business value from IT systems — Reducing the cost of IT operations

IDC will also demonstrate ways in which vendors are approaching their customer base with new offerings that are designed to make consolidation a reality. The implementation of real-world product solutions will be demonstrated and vendors will highlight the ways in which their product mix has been adapted to allow effective and long-term partnerships with their customers.
