IDC’s Second Annual Telecoms Forum to Analyze Competition, Convergence, and Globalization in European Market

LONDON, February 1, 2000 — The telecommunications industry in Europe is currently in a state of transition due to the introduction of competition into the markets and the impact of Internet Protocol (IP) on networks and services. The convergence of traditional fixed and wireless telephony networks and IP networks is, in turn, driving the convergence of voice, data, messaging, and video communications in the home and office. IDC experts will present current trends and data on the European telecommunications market at its European Telecoms Forum, scheduled for March 20 and 21 at the Hotel Excelsior Lido, Venice.

"Convergence creates massive opportunities for emerging service providers with bold integrated multiservice networking plans," said Roberto Masiero, President, IDC EMEA. "Traditional service providers who embrace the competitive challenges stand to profit considerably." Dozens of equipment companies have introduced products to commercialize convergence technologies for enterprises and service providers.

Which companies will be successful driving converged solutions and networks? How quickly will mobile operators embrace the Internet? When will there be sufficient bandwidth in backbone and local loop networks to facilitate converged services? What are the best strategies for implementing value-added competitive differentiation? Attendees will get answers to these questions and many more at this event.
