IDG Announces Record U.S. Growth, Outpaces Market In Ad Pages, Revenue, Marketshare Gains
BOSTON, MA – AUGUST 7, 2000 – International Data Group (IDG), the world’s leading provider of IT media and information services, today announced record U.S. ad page growth and marketshare gains for the first half of 2000. According to new data released by The Auditor, an independent ad tracking firm, IDG’s ad pages grew by 49 percent, more than double that of the market and its nearest competitors.
IDG not only outpaced other high tech media companies, but with 13,872 ad pages during the first half of the year, IDG's publications attracted more technology advertising pages than Forbes, Fortune, Business Week, and The Wall Street Journal combined. IDG's 49 percent growth outpaced the market’s 21 percent gain, and overshadowed declines of 5 percent for CMP and 4 percent for Ziff Davis Media. As the single largest tech media company, IDG gained 4 marketshare percentage points over the same period last year, accounting for 20.9 percent of all IT ad pages. Conversely, Ziff Davis Media lost 3.9 percentage points of marketshare, while CMP lost 4.7 points. IDG also increased the total number of advertisers in its publications by 64 percent over last year.
"Today's complex technology architectures depend on the knowledge and experience of CIOs, network managers, CTOs and internet strategists–the kind of buyers building the Internet economy, the kind of buyers who depend on IDG's publications, websites and conferences for insight, information and community," said Kelly Conlin, president and CEO, IDG. "Not only does IDG reach more technology buyers than any other media company, but is the only technology media company offering integrated marketing programs across print, online and events globally."
IDG’s record growth was further strengthened by significant increases across other titles including CIO, which grew 53 percent, and Network World, posting gains of 51 percent. In addition, IDG’s June 2000 launch of Darwin, a new business publication and companion Web site targeted to corporate business leaders, with 86 pages of advertising, marked the company’s biggest launch issue in two decades.
