IDG Names Kevin McKean CEO and Editorial Director of InfoWorld Media Group

BOSTON, MA – JANUARY 22, 2003 – International Data Group (IDG), the world's leading technology media company, today announced the appointment of Kevin McKean to CEO and editorial director of InfoWorld Media Group. In his new post, McKean will be responsible for the management of the company's print publication, InfoWorld, as well as its online operations, research, and events. InfoWorld Media Group provides in-depth analysis of enterprise technology and strategies through its integrated online, print, research and event channels.

McKean brings more than 28 years of publishing and editorial experience to InfoWorld, most recently serving as vice president and editorial director of IDG's PC World, where he was responsible for the editorial direction of PC World magazine which reaches 6.2 million people monthly, as well as the pcworld.com website, which has more than 3.4 million unique visitors each month. Since joining PC World in May 2000, McKean oversaw the redesign of both the website and magazine. Under his direction, the PC World team also introduced Product Finder, an online database of more than 140,000 computer and consumer electronics products, as well as tools and buying guides to help visitors make product decisions. The winner of the most technology publishing accolades, PC World earned more than 20 editorial awards as well as a Neal, six Maggies, and 13 National Awards from the American Society of Business Publication Editors (ASBPE).

Prior to joining PC World, McKean was executive editor at Forbes.com. He also served for two years as the assistant managing editor for business and finance at Time Inc. New Media, supervising the Money, Fortune and Your Company websites. From 1987 to 1997, he worked for Money magazine, and from 1981 to 1987, McKean served as staff writer and senior editor at Discover magazine.

In addition to his InfoWorld duties, McKean serves as vice chairman of the editorial committee of American Business Media, the leading association of business-to-business media companies, and a frequent speaker at industry conferences and events. A native of Ann Arbor, Michigan, McKean holds a bachelor's degree in English from Yale University where he graduated cum laude. He and his wife and daughter reside in San Francisco.
