IDG Signs Technology Agreements with Vietnam as Prime Minister Phan Van Khai Ends his Historic Visit to the United States

CAMBRIDGE, MA – JUNE 25, 2005 – IDG has signed two technology memoranda of understanding to expand the cooperation between IDG–the leading global technology media, research, and event management company–and the Vietnamese government and Chamber of Commerce and Industry (VCCI). Hugo Shong, senior vice president of IDG and president & CEO of IDG Asia, Tran Quoc Thang, vice minister of Ministry of Science Technology, and Vu Tien Loc, chairman and president of the Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry today signed the agreements on the MIT campus in Cambridge. It was the last stop in the Vietnamese delegation’s visit to the United States before they left for Canada.

IDG and VCCI Cooperation

The two organizations agreed to three programs: VCCI and IDG will work together to develop the use of information technology in Vietnamese enterprises aiding their competitiveness and efficiency; both organizations will cooperate to organize technology events and awards programs in Vietnam, Laos, and Cambodia; and, IDG and VCCI will have major roles in organizing an Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) technology CEO/CIO Summit and Awards event in Vietnam in November 2006.

IDG and Ministry of Science and Technology Agreement

The memorandum is designed to help build high-tech research and development capacity, promote the development of high-tech industries, and encourage technology innovation and commercialization of technology products in Vietnam. IDG will market and promote Hoa Lac Hi-Tech Park outside Vietnam through IDG’s international businesses and programs. IDG also agrees to provide advice and support to the Ministry as it plans construction and operation of a High-Tech Conference and Exposition Center in Hoa Lac Hi-Tech Park. Both organizations will study the possibility of signing a long-term contract where IDG will rent the Center on an annual basis to help construct the exhibition hall.
