IDG World Expo and AES Launch LinuxWorld Conference & Expo in Australia
SYDNEY, AUSTRALIA – APRIL 21, 2005 – IDG World Expo, the leading producer of world-class tradeshows, conferences and events for technology markets and leading Australian trade show organizer, Australian Exhibition Services (AES), today announced the launch of LinuxWorld Conference & Expo(R) in Australia. Under a license agreement, AES will stage the internationally recognised LinuxWorld Conference & Expo in Sydney next year. Scheduled for 28-30 March 2006, the expo with the accompanying conference will be held at the prestigious Sydney Convention & Exhibition Centre. AES will be working in close cooperation with IDG World Expo, owners of the LinuxWorld brand.
The relationship with IDG World Expo will enable AES to access high profile conference speakers, the latest international trends and also benefit from the experience IDG World Expo has gained in rolling out this event in more than 14 countries throughout the world.
LinuxWorld Conference & Expo will be the largest dedicated Open Source event in Australia. It is perfectly timed to capture the enthusiasm for Linux as a viable enterprise option. IDC has projected that the total market for Linux devices and software will jump from $US11billion in 2004 to $US35.7 billion by 2008. This exceptional growth provides the basis for a strong well supported event. Recent reports in Australia highlight a resurgence in IT expenditure with the Financial Review newspaper headlining a record $40 billion IT spending spree by business and governments for 2005.
According to AES Chairman, Graeme Selby, the LinuxWorld Conference & Expo will communicate the extraordinary capabilities, power and advantages that Linux and Open Source technology can provide to the government and business IT marketplace. The event will showcase the best in Open Source solutions and incorporate a 2 day action-packed conference program with speeches from leading industry figures, plenary sessions, hands-on workshops as well as a world class expo. Selby said that, "The agreement with IDG World Expo is an exciting opportunity for AES to re-engage with the IT sector given our history as organisers of the PC Shows which dominated the IT expo arena in Australia for nearly 20 years."
AES has an extensive show program and operates throughout Australia. In 2000 the company was identified by the US trade show organiser Diversified Business Communications (DBC) as the vehicle to establish a major presence in the Australian market. AES was subsequently acquired by DBC and is now a wholly owned subsidiary. Leading the LinuxWorld project team for AES will be Minnie Constan, an experienced trade show professional with a background in IT media sales.
"With events in 14 countries worldwide, LinuxWorld meets a clear information need," said David Korse, president and CEO of IDG World Expo. "Linux is the fastest growing operating system in the world, and this license agreement is a perfect fit for us, because Australia is an important market where technology companies are trying to capture the attention and loyalty of influential buyers. AES is recognized as a major organizer of exhibitions and conferences, and we are excited to partner with them in this venture."
LinuxWorld Conference & Expo is the premier event exclusively focused on Linux and Open Source solutions. As the world's most comprehensive marketplace for Open Source products and services, LinuxWorld provides business decision-makers with information and resources to implement Linux and open source solutions into business infrastructure and enterprise networks.
