IDG World Expo Announces Plans to Audit Events, Provide Additional Value For Exhibitors

FRAMINGHAM, MA – JULY 30, 2003 – IDG World Expo, the leading producer of world-class tradeshows, conferences and events for technology markets, today announced plans to engage in third-party attendance audits for its events, beginning with Macworld Conference & Expo in January 2004. This announcement is part of the company's new mission to provide additional value to its exhibitors, enhanced customer care and better communication with the communities served by its events.

Starting with its Macworld CreativePro Conference & Expo in July 2003, IDG World Expo has provided exhibitors with audit-ready attendance figures and will continue to do so with LinuxWorld Conference & Expo in August and Portable Power Conference & Expo in September.

"Our customers are very discerning when it comes to industry event participation, and they expect to be able to measure their return on objective (ROO) as well as their return on investment (ROI). We anticipate that offering our customers audited attendance numbers will go a long way to help them determine the value they derive from IDG World Expo events,” said IDG World Expo President David Korse. "Auditing is an essential initiative for us, and we admire other tradeshow organizers who have already stepped up to the plate."

"Third-party auditing of events is critical for HP," said Glenda Brungardt, tradeshow manager and sponsorship program manager for HP Imaging and Printing Group Americas. "With audited numbers, we can more accurately calculate ROI from an event and better understand our audience. Knowing that IDG World Expo plans to audit all of its events adds credibility and makes the decision to exhibit easier."

"IDG World Expo clearly has been listening to its exhibitors and the industry in general," said Marilyn R. Kroner, marketing communications manager, Quantum Corp., and immediate past president and current chair of the CEMA audit task force. "Exhibitors absolutely need independent, standardized audits to clearly determine ROI and ROO for trade shows, and IDG World Expo is proving that prioritizing its customers is of utmost importance. I heartily applaud and celebrate this decision."

As a major component in its strategy to provide greater value and continuity to its customers, IDG World Expo has reorganized its business into dedicated event teams headed by three newly-appointed group show directors who will have full responsibility for all aspects of existing and future brands. Each show director will be supported by teams charged with developing a deeper understanding of the markets they serve, providing customized solutions to exhibitors and uncovering new opportunities in cooperation with customers.

Warwick Davies has been named group show director for Macworld Conference & Expo, Macworld CreativePro Conference & Expo and LinuxWorld Conference & Expo. Davies brings 11 years of tradeshow management experience with him, having worked most recently as vice president of Expositions and International Business Development at DCI.

Joining IDG World Expo as group show director for Bio-ITWorld Conference & Expo and the BiometricsWorld Global Series of events is Jennifer LaFond, whose expertise comes from seven years in the tradeshow industry, including a tenure at Imark Communications.

Brooke Selby moves from director of public relations at IDG World Expo to group show director for COMNET Conference & Expo and Portable Power Conference & Expo. Selby is backed by 14 years of public relations and management experience, with two years at IDG World Expo. She has been participating in tradeshows for the past decade.
