IDG World Expo Asia Expands Vietnam Computerworld Expo

BOSTON, MA – AUGUST 14, 2002 – As Vietnam's domestic IT market grows by 18 percent this year, International Data Group (IDG), the world's leading technology media company, announces that IDG World Expo Asia has expanded Vietnam Computerworld Expo, its flagship event for the Vietnamese IT industry. With the increased commitment of the central government to develop its infrastructure and popularize the use of IT across government organizations and major business markets, there is a strong demand for information on the emerging technology market in Vietnam. IDG will host additional events in Vietnam including: Banking Vietnam in Hanoi in May 2003, Vietnam Computerworld Expo in Hochiminh City in July 2003, and the Vietnam Hi-tech Fair in Hanoi in November 2003.

To accommodate the growing demand for information on the Vietnamese IT market, IDG expanded the exhibitor space at Vietnam Computerworld Expo 2002, held in late July, from 6,000 square meters to 7,500 square meters. In addition, the number of exhibitors grew from 96 to 130 this year, with local and international participants increasing at the same rate. Vietnam Computerworld Expo 2002 attracted a total of 112,343 attendees, a 10 percent increase over last year making it the biggest professional IT tradeshow in the country.

"We decided on a bigger booth this year to maximize our brand exposure and introduce the latest printers," said Toshiyuki Yakuwa, president, Epson Thailand. "The show generates a huge awareness for our products and visitors can see and touch the quality which otherwise would be difficult in print ads or on television."

The show has been a collective effort of IDG World Expo Asia, Hochiminh Computer Association and Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry. Endorsed by the Ministry of Science, Technology, & Environment, Ministry of Trade, Department General of Post & Telecommunications and supported by a number of other ministries, professional associations and international trade bodies, Vietnam Computerworld Expo was sponsored by Nokia and IBM and featured a software pavilion housing sixteen local software developers. With e-Government as the focus of the event, renowned speakers from Vietnam, Singapore, Australia, Hong Kong, and the US shared their experiences and insights on the strategic direction and challenges of this popular topic in Asia. Major exhibitors included: HP, Samsung, Epson, Toshiba, Acer, LG, Creative, Intel, Sony, Elite, Seagate, Xerox, and Panasonic.
