IDG World Expo Brings Linuxworld Conference & Expo to Boston

FRAMINGHAM, MA – DECEMBER 18, 2003 – IDG World Expo, the leading producer of world-class tradeshows, conferences and events for technology markets around the globe, today announced that the East Coast LinuxWorld Conference & Expo will take place in Boston beginning in 2005. LinuxWorld, the world’s most comprehensive event for Linux and open source technology, will take place at the Hynes Convention Center in Boston, February 14-17, 2005.

LinuxWorld Conference & Expo was launched by IDG World Expo in 1999 as a gathering place for the open source community. Since then, the event has grown and matured along with the open source movement itself, which now boasts the support of the world’s largest technology companies. Each year, thousands of CIOs, CTOs, IT managers, system and network administrators, software developers and line of business managers flock to LinuxWorld to learn how to reduce costs and increase reliability and efficiency with open source technology.

The East Coast LinuxWorld Conference & Expo will make its Boston debut in 2005 after five consecutive years at New York City’s Javits Center. A lack of available space at the Javits Center initiated a search by IDG World Expo for a new city on the East Coast to host the event beginning in 2005. IDG World Expo made the decision to move LinuxWorld to Boston after months of extensive research and consultations with key constituents.

"Computer Associates has been a proud supporter of LinuxWorld Conference & Expo for many years,” said Samuel Greenblatt, senior vice president and chief architect of Computer Associates. "We're excited to follow the event to Boston, where many of our top customers and prospects are based. The area is renowned as a hotbed of technology, and so it seems appropriate that LinuxWorld will soon make Boston its home."

“LinuxWorld has enjoyed tremendous growth and success over the years, and we are pleased to bring this world-class event to Boston,” said David Korse, president of IDG World Expo. “The open source community has a strong presence in New England, which is also home to a large population of companies and technology professionals using – or considering – Linux and open source solutions. We’re confident that LinuxWorld will continue to build on its success during its years in Boston.”

LinuxWorld Conference & Expo in Boston will feature four packed days of educational sessions, held February 14-17. Comprising conference sessions, tutorials, and hands-on labs, LinuxWorld’s comprehensive conference program provides education and training for Linux users in a wide variety of roles and industries. The LinuxWorld exhibit floor, open February 15-17, will feature the world’s leading technology companies showcasing the newest Linux and open source solutions.

IDG World Expo also plans to launch a new, conference-based LinuxWorld event in New York City in 2005, to serve those unable to travel to LinuxWorld Conference & Expo in Boston. San Francisco’s Moscone Center will continue to serve as LinuxWorld Conference & Expo’s home on the West Coast each summer.

The next LinuxWorld Conference & Expo will take place January 20-23, 2004 at the Javits Center in New York City. For more information on that event, visit
