IDG World Expo Expands 2002 Event Lineup With Five New Shows

FRAMINGHAM, MA – APRIL 11, 2001 – IDG World Expo, the world's leading IT event management company and producer of Macworld, LinuxWorld, and COMNET, today released its 2002 show schedule. The event lineup includes the addition of five new shows: COMNET Wireless, ESPWorld (Enterprise Service Provider) Conference and Expo, Enterprise Application Summit, Federal OpenSource Conference, and the Worldwide Developers Conference @ LinuxWorld.

IDG World Expo remains focused on developing events that continue to address new and important technologies despite the current economic slump affecting the technology industry and other industry events. A subsidiary of International Data Group (IDG), a global leader of IT media and research, IDG World Expo remains forward-thinking and committed to the growth of the IT industry. IT industry decision-makers are demanding increased coverage of new platforms, which until now have not been heavily explored by event producers.

"Our extensive history within the conference and expo space, combined with the added resource of one of the world's leading research firms, enables us to look ahead and forecast the trends that will be shaping the future of technology," says Charlie Greco, president and CEO, IDG World Expo. "As producers of some of the most widely attended IT industry events, IDG

World Expo will see nearly a million people attend any one of some 200 events produced by IDG around the world. Millions of technology companies, IT workers and consumers look to us as a reputable source in the IT industry, and we plan to maintain that reputation by continuing to bring new, relevant events to the marketplace."

The first of five shows, Federal OpenSource Conference, is geared towards government IT managers and directors (military and civilian) and covers all open source technologies, including apache, XML and Linux. IDG World Expo expects this year's attendance to exceed 3,000 government IT workers from state, local and international branches. The first Federal OpenSource Conference is slated for October 2 – 5, 2001 at the Ronald Reagan Building International Trade Center, and the second is scheduled for April 24 – 27, 2002 at the Washington DC Convention Center.

Set for January 29 – 31, 2002 at the Washington DC Convention Center, ESPWorld Conference and Expo is co-locating with COMNET Conference & Expo, combining the largest and most influential business-to-business tradeshow with the largest technology conference and exposition dedicated to global networking. These two January events will bring nearly 50,000 application service providers, communication network builders, buyers and strategists from small companies to global enterprises into one central location. ESPWorld will also be held June 24 – 27, 2002 at the Las Vegas Convention Center.

Enterprise Application Summit (EAS) is scheduled to debut January 29 – 31, 2002 at the Washington DC Convention Center. EAS will focus on key issues facing enterprise decision-makers when evaluating an enterprise application. The Summit is being launched in response to overwhelming feedback demanding an event that addresses the needs and choices of the enterprise. Event producers will also bring the event to the Las Vegas Convention Center, September 25 – 27, 2002

The highly successful LinuxWorld Conference & Expo will unveil its first ever Worldwide Developers Conference @ LinuxWorld at the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center, January 30 – February 1, 2002. The much anticipated Worldwide Developers Conference is a techno-intensive conference catering to the community of Linux-based applications developers. This conference will provide technical training as well as forums for discussion of the latest developments in Open Source application design and development. The Worldwide Developers Conference @ LinuxWorld will also be held at The Moscone Center, August 13 – 15, 2002.

COMNET Wireless Conference & Expo is a by-product of COMNET Conference & Expo, the largest networking and communications event in the industry. COMNET Wireless will shed light on the products and services required when building a true wireless environment. The event will educate the enterprise on ways to extend its corporate networks to address the increasing mobility of today's workforce. COMNET Wireless will debut June 24 – 27, 2002 at the Las Vegas Convention Center.
