IDG World Expo Launches BioITWorld Conference & Expo
FRAMINGHAM, MA – JUNE 25, 2001 – IDG World Expo today announced the launch of BioITWorld Conference & Expo, the first major event showcasing the latest in bioinformatics and IT solutions for the life sciences industry. The event will premiere at Boston's World Trade Center, March 12 – 15, 2002.
BioITWorld is expected to be the largest event to focus on the enabling technologies accelerating the bio-science market. The event will offer in-depth education on the latest tools, services and training for biotechnology professionals in the post-genomic era.
"IDG World Expo is proud to launch the first industry event focused exclusively on IT solutions for life sciences," said Charlie Greco, president and CEO of IDG World Expo. "The exploding demand for bioinformatics is creating a market representing billions of dollars. The most influential leaders in biotech will gather at BioITWorld to shape the future, recruit partners and train a rapidly changing workforce."
BioITWorld Conference & Expo is collaborating with IDC and other leading educational partners to establish a best practices event. Top biotechnology portals such as Bio Online and Biospace.com have also partnered with BioITWorld as event supporters. Commercial support for the event is gaining momentum as large OEM's, bioinformatics, and major pharmaceutical companies are lining up to showcase their latest products and services on a grand scale.
"There is a lack of knowledge and experience surrounding the infrastructure requirements to support current and future bioscience workloads," said Debra Goldfarb, Group Vice President, IDC. "This search for a guidepost architecture for mission critical requirements is creating an industry need for expert direction to ensure scalability and usability. With the exponential growth of data, emerging technologies will speed life science discovery into the next decade. All this activity sets the stage for a 'must attend' event like BioITWorld to embrace these issues."
The event will feature an in-depth conference program, including a series of IT symposia, high profile keynotes, technology workshops, executive roundtables, leadership forums, product and industry award programs and peer-to-peer networking activities. The exposition will showcase advanced computational technologies as well as special programs for biotech start-ups. Attendees will also have the opportunity to "test drive" IT solutions in the Bioinformatics Hands-On Laboratory, which will be located on the expo floor.
"Informatics is fundamentally changing the way research is being conducted in the life sciences and biotechnology," said Lee Jensen, president and CEO of Bio Online, Inc. "Since 1992, Bio.com has served as an important bridge and facilitator between the life science and informatics communities. We are very excited about participating in IDG's upcoming BioITWorld conference. This type of event is extremely important in driving innovation and fostering collaboration between life scientists and informatics professionals."
The enormous amount of information produced in genomic, proteomic and bio-related research is fueling demand for advanced IT solutions and data-intensive analysis across many different industries. BioITWorld presents an alternative for life science researchers and executives who have been searching for these solutions at traditional scientific events. The program will focus on specialty areas of biotechnology with an emphasis on IT and its strategic application to the enterprise.
"YottaYotta is looking forward to our participation in IDG's BioITWorld conference as it will provide us with the opportunity to get face-to-face with life sciences IT decision makers," said Robin Harris, VP of Marketing at YottaYotta, an exhibitor at the event. "Biotech is becoming increasingly data intensive, team sizes are growing, and the need for massive amounts of integrated data is increasing."
"IDG's BioITWorld conference is exactly the type of event Hewlett-Packard is interested in participating in," said David Valenta, Global Market Development Manager for Life Sciences at Hewlett-Packard, a supporter of the event. "HP's products and solutions are used by every major IT organization in life sciences. Being able to meet in one place and talk to all the players in life sciences IT is definitely a major benefit."
