IDG World Expo Launches Internet Entertainment Expo

FRAMINGHAM, MA – AUGUST 9, 2000 – IDG World Expo, the fastest-growing, information technology event producer in the world, announced today the launch of the Internet Entertainment Expo (IEX) at the Las Vegas Convention Center, March 20-22, 2001. The event will be supported by flagship sponsor IDG Games Media Group, publisher of GamePro magazine, the world's largest multi-platform gaming magazine.

IEX will be the venue to attend for companies that provide on-line entertainment content, or are looking to enter the exploding market. In addition to a comprehensive exhibit floor, IEX will host an educational, best practices-rich conference program, along with a number of industry-driven forums created and supported by the market's leading influencers, visionaries and analysts. Special events and industry initiatives will be launched at IEX further strengthening its position as the central event around which the industry gathers.

"We strongly believe that the focus and educational value of the Internet Entertainment Expo addresses a growing need in the market that other events are only covering with a `me too' approach," states Charlie Greco, president and ceo of IDG World Expo, producers of the event. "The time has come for an event that is created and designed specifically for the buyers and sellers of tools, services and training for delivering entertainment content over the new public networks."

The announcement coincides with the recent release of the IDG Games Media Group's 2000 White Paper, that shows the growth of broadband connectivity to the Internet will drive on-line entertainment into the dominant position of mass market consumer adoption. More than 20 million homes in the US are projected to have broadband access to the Internet by 2003, and on-line entertainment will be the number #1 category in per day usage, according to IDG Games, MediaMetrix and IDC. As entertainment content providers compete for the attention and dollars of consumers, more demand than ever is being placed on their infrastructure to deliver reliable, scalable and secure services, e-commerce transactions and on-demand media-rich entertainment. As a result, content providers, distributors and aggregators will spend billions of dollars over the coming years to build and manage their entertainment content delivery networks and services.

"Our advertisers and readers alike continue to raise the bar on the offerings and expectations of the on-line gaming and entertainment experience," said John Rousseau, president and ceo of IDG Games Media Group, and Publisher of GamePro magazine. "IDG Games Media Group is excited to partner with IDG World Expo to create an event that will bring together the key executives and managers that will move this industry forward."

Entertainment and information technology professionals, investors and strategists will benefit from the education, research and product demonstrations provided at IEX. Specific programs will be tailored to entertainment CTOs and other CXO-level executives, in addition to marketing, IS, and business-level managers from content distributors and aggregators, as well as content creators, studios and artists.

"Content providers and distributors are realizing the tremendous implications and bottom-line results from an integrated, intelligent, front-to-back entertainment network," explained Rob Scheschareg, vice president of events at IDG World Expo. "Unlike other entertainment content events that address only one or two segments, Internet Entertainment Expo will uniquely address the needs and issues that are of great importance to a wide array of entertainment content executives and managers."

Developers, suppliers and service providers will display a wide array of critical components for delivering entertainment content via the New Public Networks. Categories will include content delivery services, broadband management services, subscriber management systems, infrastructure hardware, software and services, digital asset management tools, traffic analytics, marketing and promotional partnerships and programs, content creation tools, consumption devices and user interface products.

The Internet Entertainment Expo has secured over 300,000 square feet of convention space at

the Las Vegas Convention Center.

"Preliminary response and pre-sales of exhibit space for IEX have mandated that we secure as much space as possible at these top-tier facilities", stated Greco. "As we form partnerships with the key industry suppliers, we reinforce our belief that we are creating a vehicle that provides the most valuable platform to showcase the latest products and services."
