IDG World Expo Makes It-Tradeshow History With Second Successful Linuxworld Conference & Expo

San Jose, Calif. – August 16, 1999 – IDG World Expo's LinuxWorld Conference & Expo concluded its second successful Linux-only event on Thursday, August 12, 1999. With 168 exhibitors, the four-day event at the San Jose Convention Center in San Jose, Calif., attracted 14,278 attendees. Due to the overwhelming success of the first LinuxWorld Conference & Expo held in March at the same venue, IDG World Expo doubled the show floor for last week's event, creating a 100,000 square-foot show floor – making this the fastest growing event in IT-tradeshow history.

"The rapid acceptance and success of LinuxWorld Conference & Expo has been unprecedented," said Charlie Greco, President & CEO of IDG World Expo. "This is not only the largest Linux-only event, but also the fastest growing IT-tradeshow. IDG World Expo is proud to have brought the second LinuxWorld Conference & Expo to the Linux community and looks forward to working with the community in its exciting endeavor."

Show highlights from last week's LinuxWorld Conference & Expo included:

An interactive keynote address from Linus Torvalds, which drew a crowd of 6,200 Linux devotees;

A special appearance of Intel's Chairman, Andy Grove, during the keynote presentation by Sean Maloney, a senior vice president at Intel;

The official presentation of the $25,000 IDG/Linus Torvalds Community Award to the Free Software Foundation (FSF) for its continued support of the Linux community;

A comprehensive conference program consisting of 18 tutorials designed to teach professionals, users and developers what they need to know in order to run an organization with Linux.

"In our experience, LinuxWorld Conference & Expo is the largest and best Linux event for gathering quality sales leads," said Brian Biles, Vice President of Marketing at VA Linux Systems, Inc.

The next LinuxWorld Conference & Expo, will be held in New York City at the Jacob Javits Center from February 1 – 4, 2000 – the first time the show will be held on the East Coast. LinuxWorld Conference & Expo February will offer the Linux-focused conference programs, keynote speakers, feature presentations and exhibit floor attractions the Linux community has come to expect from its premier Linux-only event.
