IDG’s CIO Executive Council Appoints David Lien To New Position Of Director Of Program Development

Framingham, MA — September 22, 2004 — The CIO Executive Council, a professional member-driven organization of chief information officers created by IDG’s CXO Media, announces the appointment of David Lien to Director of Program Development. Lien, a veteran of Gartner Executive Programs (EXP), will focus on growing the CIO Executive Council’s membership (currently at 175 members), as well as member retention and satisfaction initiatives.

"The CIO Executive Council is experiencing rapid growth and tremendous interest in its first five months of activity,” says Martha Heller, Managing Director of the CIO Executive Council. “David’s charge is to build upon our early success and bring the Council to the next level. Given his expertise and understanding of CIO challenges, he is ideally suited to carry out this mission.”

Lien is a proven leader in business development, with more than 10 years experience working in information technology (IT), events and membership-based organizations. Most recently, Lien served as Senior Sales Executive for Gartner EXP, where he advised and provided consulting services and tools to CIOs at medium-to-large-sized organizations. Prior to Gartner, Lien held several posts at Ziff-Davis/Softbank, including national sales director for Networld+Interop, an annual five-day conference focused on IT educational programs.

According to Lien, the CIO Executive Council’s unique member-driven initiatives, consultative approach and staffing resources attracted him to the position. "In sharing their challenges and needs, members of the CIO Executive Council drive the group’s initiatives while the Council’s support staff is on board to put these initiatives into action. No other organization shows that level of respect for CIOs’ challenges, opinions and time.”

Lien’s appointment brings the CIO Executive Council’s staff up to fifteen dedicated employees. Led by Mark Hall, General Manager of the Council, and Heller, the Council staff includes a combination of functions from public relations, government relations, project management, account management, recruitment and member services. The Council is also supported by CXO Media’s top industry experts from web development, research, marketing and event planning.

According to Walter Manninen, President and CEO of CXO Media, “The rapid growth and development of the CIO Executive Council is a testament to the program and the promise it holds for the future.
