IDG’s CIO Magazine Honors Top 100 Organizations For Innovative Use Of Information Technology

FRAMINGHAM, MA – JUNE 15, 2006 – IDG’s CIO magazine, the original and most trusted resource for chief information officers (CIOs), announces the recipients of the 19th annual CIO 100 award. This year’s award recognizes business leaders of innovative organizations for their ability to leverage information technology (IT) effectively to maximize business value.

“This year’s honorees demonstrate excellence in using IT to foster business growth,” says Abbie Lundberg, editor in chief of CIO magazine. “Representing a wide range of industries, the honorees also illustrate how IT plays a critical role in the success of all organizations, large and small.”

The recipients of this year’s CIO 100 awards were selected through a three-step process. First, companies filled out an online application form detailing their innovative practices in both business and IT. Next, teams of CIO editors and writers reviewed the applications and scored them against four criteria: innovation, value, leadership and collaboration, with the greatest emphasis on innovation and value. Companies with a total score greater than 26 (of a possible 40) were subjected to a second round of scrutiny and discussion. The editors then debated how each company stacked up against the others in terms of the depth and breadth of their practices, their creativity, the specific measurable results of their achievements and the take-aways they could provide to readers. After a day of deliberations, the team settled on the final 100.

Of the final 100, five honorees also will be selected to receive a special award recognizing their outstanding achievement in one of the following categories: Business Innovation, Customer Satisfaction, Supply Chain Excellence, Efficiency & Productivity and Competitive Advantage. These special honorees will be announced at the eighth annual CIO 100 Symposium® and Awards Ceremony honoring all of the CIO 100 recipients. The ceremony takes place August 22nd, at the Hotel del Coronado in San Diego, California at the close of the 2006 CIO 100 Symposium.
