IDG’s CMO Captures Magazine of the Year Award in First Year of Publication

Framingham, MA – June 22, 2005 – CXO Media Inc., producer of award-winning media properties and executive programs for corporate officers, is proud to announce CMO magazine is the American Society of Business Publication Editors' (ASBPE) pick for Magazine of the Year (in the less than 80,000 circulation category). ASBPE announced the award last night at a ceremony held at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland, OH. This is the first ASBPE Magazine of the Year award for CMO magazine, the only publication devoted to chief marketing officers, now just 10 months in print. Sister publications CIO and CSO magazines, also published by IDG business unit CXO Media, received the same honor during the last two years. The three C-level publications and their companion websites vied for 17 national ASBPE awards in 13 categories. National and regional results are available at http://www.asbpe.org.

Rob O'Regan, editor in chief of CMO magazine says, “The respect and trust our readers place in CMO magazine editorial is the foundation of our success and what we strive for as a publication. To be named Magazine of the Year by our editorial peers helps validate that we are on the right track in serving our readers.” Adds Steve Twombly, publisher of CMO magazine, "Being honored as Magazine of the Year so soon after launch is both a gratifying and humbling experience. While today we can bask in our accomplishments, tomorrow the real work begins anew to live up to this prestigious recognition.”

The Magazine of the Year honor comes on the heels of an impressive start for CMO magazine. Launched in June 2004 as a Web resource at http://www.cmomagazine.com and followed by the monthly magazine launch September 2004, CMO magazine received a merit award for design at the Society of Publication Designers' (SPD) 40th Annual Magazine Design Competition held in March 2005. Most recently CMO magazine received an honorable mention in MarketingSherpa's 10 Best Blogs for 2005 in the "Top Reader's Choice" category for its companion website's daily blog, Collateral Damage.

The editorial excellence competition, which utilizes five major criteria to analyze consistency in excellence over three consecutive magazine issues, is produced by the ASBPE, the nation's only professional association for editors and writers who work on business, trade, association, and professional magazines and their associated Internet publications. The focus of ASBPE is to help business publication editors and writers develop editorial and publishing management skills that will enhance their professional performance, the editorial excellence of their publications, and prepare members to play larger roles in their publishing organizations. The society has more than 700 members, chapters in 14 cities, and sponsors an annual scholarship for young editors, conducts salary surveys, and other research on numerous editorial-related topics.
