IDG’s GovTech 2000 Announces the Addition of Al Zollar and Rep. Curt Weldon as Keynote Speakers
FALLS CHRUCH, VA. (APRIL 7, 2000) — FCW Government Technology Group, producer of the GovTech 2000 Conference and Exhibition, confirmed two additional speakers to the upcoming technology conference that will be held June 20-21 at the Washington, D.C. Convention Center. Previously, Tim Berners-Lee, founder of the World Wide Web Consortium and creator of the World Wide Web and Mark B. Templeton, president and chief executive officer of Citrix Systems, Inc. were confirmed as keynote speakers.
Al Zollar, president and chief executive officer of Lotus Development Corp., will speak on Wednesday, June 21 at 9:00 a.m. U.S. Representative Curt Weldon (R-PA), chairman of the Military Research and Development Subcommittee and a senior member of the House Committee on Science will speak on Wednesday, June 21 at 2:00 p.m.

During his 23-year career at IBM, Zollar recently served as general manager of IBM’s Network Computing Software Division, where he was responsible for orchestrating IBM’s push to design, develop and deliver leading Internet infrastructure middleware for e-businesses. Over the years, he amassed senior-level experience as general manager, IBM eNetwork software and senior vice president of development for IBM’s Tivoli Systems unit. He has also held key management positions at IBM software development laboratories in North Carolina and California.
Since 1987, Congressman Curt Weldon has represented the Seventh Congressional District of Pennsylvania as a Member of the House of Representatives. Weldon has taken leadership roles on a variety of issues, from technology to national security.
As a senior member of the House National Security Committee, Weldon is the chairman of the Military Research and development Subcommittee, overseeing the development and testing of key military systems, weapons programs, and technologies that fulfill military needs. He is also a senior member of the House Committee on Science where he has witnessed the technology revolution first hand. When it comes to technology, Weldon believes, "we govern best when we govern least. We cannot risk hampering the dramatic development of technology with cumbersome regulation, excessive taxes or federal bureaucracy."
GovTech 2000 is an intergovernmental technology exhibition and conference that showcases seven emerging high-tech disciplines in a unique demonstration format.
