IDG’s InfoWorld Promotes Joe Benway to Chief Operating Officer

SAN MATEO, Calif– 01/27/2000 — IDG's InfoWorld, the IT newsweekly that defines technology for business, today announced that Joe Benway has been promoted to senior vice president and chief operating officer from his position as vice president of finance and operations.

In his position as senior vice president and chief operating officer, Benway will be responsible for finance, legal, information systems, production and distribution.

"Over the last year and a half, Joe has exhibited exceptional financial and operational skills. He offers an incredible value and insight to the operations at InfoWorld and this is a well deserved promotion," said Stephen Moylan, president and CEO of InfoWorld Media Group. "Furthermore, Joe's experience in the broadcast and public relations business will help us work on our key strategic initiatives, and CTO Forum in the year 2000."

Prior to being named COO, he was vice president of finance and operations for InfoWorld, where — as member of the executive committee — he had primary responsibility for client accounting, legal coordination, real estate, IS, financial reporting and strategic financial planning. Benway also played a key role in leading efforts to expand the business into web publishing, consulting, broadcast and conferences.

Before joining InfoWorld in 1998, Benway was CFO for the Park Lane Group in Menlo Park, Calif., and earlier with Prism Radio Partners in Tucson, Ariz., both multi-million dollar groups of radio properties. Prior to that, Benway was with Burson-Marsteller, a multinational PR firm, for 16 years, where he rapidly rose through the financial ranks to become CFO. Benway has a bachelor's degree in business administration from Boston University, and an MBA from Washington University in St. Louis, Missouri.

"I am excited to be part of the recent successes and future potential for such as well-regarded technology brand," said Benway. "InfoWorld now finds itself positioned at the nexus where business meets technology, and through our powerful combination of vision, energy and leadership, we will continue to define technology for our readers — the leaders of business."
