IDG’s ITworld.com Partners With bitpipe communications to Develop Premiere Whitepaper Database
BOSTON, MA — January 6, 2000 — International Data Group’s ITworld.com has formed an agreement with Boston-based bitpipe communications, inc. (www.bitpipe.com), the leader in IT vendor and analyst content syndication, for the development of a Whitepaper Database within ITworld.com. To be launched in February 2000, ITworld.com is a newly formed, IDG business that promises to be the IT problem-solving networkTM.

A 1999 study of IT professionals conducted by Berlin, Massachusetts-based Research Concepts, LLC, found that whitepapers are frequently sought by IT buyers looking for product information prior to purchase. A full 80 percent of respondents reported that whitepapers had some influence on purchase. This study also indicated that although these respondents currently visit vendors’ sites most often to access whitepapers, if a publisher Web site had such a whitepaper database site, 93 percent report some degree of likelihood of visiting it.
Such encouraging news should resonate well with many technology companies that spend a sizable portion of their budgets on whitepapers but find it challenging to distribute them in a cost-effective manner. By offering them such a navigable site, technology companies will now have the largest online forum where their chances of having their whitepapers viewed and having their brand enhanced will increase tremendously.
