IDG’s Network World Introduces New, Enhanced Look on Network World Fusion
SOUTHBOROUGH, MASS. – -02/23/2000 — Network World Inc., the leader in network knowledge, recently announced the re-design of Network World Fusion, (www.nwfusion.com) networking's most active online community. The new look is part of a series of changes to make Network World Fusion (NW Fusion) the most integrated online network resource around.
"We talked with users and technology gurus and conducted research on the needs of our users in an effort to bring the best new ideas to life," said Adam Gaffin, Online Editor of Network World Fusion. "As the leader in network knowledge, we are continually thinking about how to improve what we do. Redesigning NW Fusion helps us do just that."
The new homepage highlights the top breaking news in networking as well as new forums, white papers, and other resources of use to busy network professionals.
An entirely new research area gets readers up to speed quickly on the increasingly complex technologies they must deal with on a daily basis. Pages on specific technologies provide links to everything from introductory primers to in-depth backgrounders and white papers. For several technologies — DSL, frame relay and application service providers (ASPs) — readers can also use search engines that index not just Network World content, but white papers, case studies and technology backgrounders from hundreds of web sites around the world. This increased emphasis on background information carries across to breaking news. A full-time researcher helps gather hyperlinks to related articles and resources that can help readers put the news into context.
Other key changes include:
–A single "Find it Box" allowing users to search using either keywords or Network World's unique DocFinder system for finding specific articles.
–More forums on key networking issues. The forums are linked to relevant Network World news articles and columns, letting readers jump from one to the other.
–The development of new e-mail newsletters on topics from Linux to NetWare.
"Network World Fusion is filled with great online specific content, such as discussion forums and audio tutorials, and we wanted to give that content a bolder, more authoritative look while giving our users quicker access to critical information," said John Gallant, Network World's Executive Vice President and Editorial Director.
