IDG’s PC World Receives Top Honors At 42nd Annual Neal Awards

NEW YORK, NY (MARCH 29, 1996)- The American Business Press last night awarded

PC World's editors and designers three Neal Awards for journalistic

excellence, including one for "Best Single Issue." The Awards were presented

during a special ceremony for the 42nd Annual Jesse H. Neal Awards

competition.

This is the first time in the 42-year history of the American Business Press

competition that a publication has won three awards in consecutive years. In

1995, PC World was the first magazine in the Class C category (annual

advertising revenue of more than $5,000,000) to win three Neals in one year

since 1981. Editors and designers also received two Certificates of Merit at

the awards ceremony, which took place at the Hudson Theatre in New York, and

featured a keynote address by former White House Press Secretary and author

Marlin Fitzwater.

Phil Lemmons, Editor-in-Chief of PC World, noted, "We are honored that once

again our editors and designers have been singled out by their peers for

their journalistic integrity and superior efforts to publish the best

computer magazine possible for our readers. Editor Cathryn Baskin, Executive

Editor Steve Fox, who oversaw our coverage of Windows 95 which garnered two

out of three Neals, and the entire staff should be very proud of these

accolades."

The 1996 Neal winners were selected by an ABP judging board of nine prominent

business press editors, chaired by Clay Felker, founding editor of New York

Magazine. The 854 entries submitted this year were scored in three areas:

service to the industry, journalistic enterprise and editorial

craftsmanship. One award was given in eight different categories, with three

classifications (based on advertising revenues) in each category, for a total

of 22 Neals and 22 Certificates of Merit.

PC World submitted entries in six categories, and received awards in the
