International Data Group Announces Launch of New Consumer Expo for Interactive Entertainment Industry
BOSTON, MA – NOVEMBER 9, 2006 – International Data Group (IDG), the world's leading technology media and events company, will launch a new consumer interactive entertainment exposition for consumers at the Los Angeles Convention Center next year. The new event, endorsed by the Entertainment Software Association (ESA), will be Oct. 18-20, 2007, and is aimed at the general public, not business and trade audiences.
“A consumer-focused event just before the holiday buying season will help game buyers make their holiday purchasing decisions,” said Mary Dolaher, executive vice president of IDG World Expo. “It will also be an excellent time for product announcements.”
ESA President Douglas Lowenstein said: “There has long been interest in a consumer event for the video game industry, and we are pleased to lend our endorsement to IDG’s effort to create a new, singular event for gamers. IDG’s event will chart a new course, offering gamers the chance to get their hands directly on some of the latest game products before they hit the store shelves for the holidays.”
Contest To Name New Event
Because the new exposition will be open to the general public, it will encourage maximum interaction between consumers and game-related companies. To that end, the new event will be named by gamers themselves in a unique contest announced today. The contest is open through Nov. 20, 2006, with the winner receiving two round-trip airline tickets, hotel accommodations for the exposition, and special behind-the-scenes access to new products and events. The winner and show name will be announced in December. Visit http://www.gamepro.com/namedbygamers to enter the contest and for complete rules.
IDG Furthers Commitment to Interactive Entertainment Industry
Mary Dolaher, formerly vice president at ESA, has moved to IDG World Expo as its executive vice president. Dolaher, who managed E3Expo since its inception, is joined at IDG by several of her former E3Expo colleagues. Dolaher returns to IDG where she earlier served during a 15-year period as an executive administrator, events manager, and director of corporate communications.
ESA has also selected IDG World Expo to manage its recently announced E3 Media and Business Summit next July in Santa Monica, California. Dolaher will head the Summit management team.
“IDG is excited to have the endorsement of the Entertainment Software Association as we launch our new gamer show,” said Bob Carrigan, president, IDG Communications. “We are well suited to manage the ESA Summit as well as run a consumer show in this market.”
IDG Entertainment publishes GamePro magazine and produces web sites including gamepro.com, gamerhelp.com, and games.net. IDG World Expo has produced the Macworld Conference & Expo since its inception 20 years ago.
