LinuxWorld 2001 Offers Free Participation For Open Source, Linux Organizations

BOSTON, MA – JUNE 18, 2001 – IDG World Expo Germany, together with LIVE Linux-Verband e.V., the leading German Linux Association, is offering a unique opportunity for Open Source projects and non-commercial development groups to participate in Germany's LinuxWorld Conference & Expo 2001 free of charge. For the first time, the conference will also feature a Greenhouse, a special showcase for start-ups and other emerging Linux companies. Germany's LinuxWorld Conference & Expo will take place from October 30 – November 1 at the Frankfurt Trade Fair in Frankfurt, Germany.

The LinuxWorld Conference & Expo .org Pavilion allows free participation in the trade fair for all '.orgs,' providing representatives of the Linux community and visitors a key information and contact-exchange venue. As the sponsor of the .org Pavilion, the LIVE Linux Association sees this portion of the event as an important component of the conference and the move to foster more Open Source projects. Last year, select organizations participated in this pavilion for the first time including GNOME, SAMBA, KDE, LIVE, WINE, MOSIX, and the Linux Professional Institute.

Through the Greenhouse, start-ups and other emerging Linux companies have an inexpensive opportunity to present themselves to a large professional audience, make important contacts, and exchange new ideas. LIVE Linux-Verband e.V. is also sponsoring this aspect of the conference as well as the Greenhouse. In conjunction with the Greenhouse project, the association is also initiating a special development program for start-ups and small companies.

"TheGerman LinuxWorld Conference & Expo is an important platform for our members," said Thomas Uhl of the LIVE Linux Association. "We look forward to expanding the collaboration this year."

Germany's LinuxWorld Conference & Expo is the first targeted business-to-business event related to the Linux Operating System and Open Source Community in Europe. It provides a mutual platform for both Linux specialists and IT industry and business influencers.

IDG World Expo Germany expects more than 12,000 exhibitors and about 500 participants for the German LinuxWorld Conference & Expo.
