LinuxWorld Attendees to Tour “Around the World” With Linux’ On-Floor Presentations Will Showcase How Linux and Open Source Makes a Difference Internationally
FRAMINGHAM, MA – JUNE 4, 2002 – IDG World Expo, the leading producer of world-class tradeshows, conferences and events for IT markets, announced today that LinuxWorld Conference & Expo attendees will learn about the use of Linux and Open Source internationally in a new series of show floor presentations called "Linux Around the World." Developed in conjunction with Linux International, these presentations will describe a variety of special projects that use Linux and Open Source to bring computers and technology to developing and rural areas around the world.
Linux Around the World is open to all attendees at the upcoming LinuxWorld Conference & Expo, taking place August 12-15, 2002 at San Francisco's Moscone Center. LinuxWorld is the premier event exclusively focused on Linux and Open Source solutions.
The series will feature nine sessions led by academicians and business innovators that describe how Linux and Open Source technologies are being used as a low-cost alternative to proprietary products and software in the developing world. Attendees will learn about projects that have made computers and the Internet available in schools, training centers, community access centers and corporations in developing countries and rural areas.
"Those of us in the IT industry often take technology for granted, not realizing that so many of the world's residents have never even seen a computer," said Charlie Greco, president and CEO, IDG World Expo. "Linux and Open Source are making affordable computing a reality for developing and rural geographies. This is the spirit of Open Source at its finest, and we felt it was important to tell this story at LinuxWorld."
All Linux Around the World sessions will be held on Wednesday, August 14th at LinuxWorld Conference & Expo. Topics and speakers include:
