LinuxWorld Boston Announces ”Government Day” Focused on the Implementation of Open Standards

FRAMINGHAM, MA – March 1, 2006 – IDG World Expo today announced the introduction of "LinuxWorld Government Day" at LinuxWorld Conference & Expo(R), scheduled for April 3-6, 2006 at the Boston Convention and Exhibition Center. The one-day event, which will take place on Tuesday, April 4, 2006, is sponsored by Novell, Microsoft and Trusted Computer Solutions. LinuxWorld Government Day will focus on the dominant issues facing public sector decision makers in building and maintaining systems and staff in a world of rapidly evolving open source technology. The conference program is open and free for credentialed members of the public sector.

LinuxWorld Government Day will bring together government representatives, leading open source technology vendors and community project leaders for a five-session program that will review the progress being made in the adoption and advancements of open source and open standards. In addition to expert presentations and interactive attendee dialogue, the program will review the real-world challenges that five companies faced in their own open source initiatives. Each case study will examine the requirements, product options, maintenance, training, collaboration and legal frameworks as viewed from intra-public, inter-public, and public-private perspectives.

"This special one-day LinuxWorld program will provide a forum for public sector IT professionals to get reliable information directly from their peers who have already made great strides in the open source arena," said David Korse, President & CEO, IDG World Expo. "In today's challenging technology market, there is a heavy focus on — and need for — cooperation with other entities. LinuxWorld Government Day is the ideal place to bring colleagues together to learn from one another and forge mutually beneficial relationships."
